The journey
The line on the book is from the gospel of John, and John wrote it in Ephesus, where he spent his final years. Of that city there remain a marble street and a ruined basilica.
How to read it
Unlike the Pantocrator, here the book is open and can be read. It is the same figure saying the opposite: not judgement withheld, but a word offered.
When it is given
Confirmation and ordination. Also a parish office or a catechism room.
